Baja
WingShooting offers full service guided
hunts for 100% wild Pheasant , Quail and
Dove. All hunting is done on privately
owned land with exclusive contracts with
the owners of the land. Hunters have the
choice of bringing their own guns ( a
special permit is required ) or using
one of ours. Listed below is a general
description of the hunting and as you
can see the seasons all overlap
eachother.
Pheasant hunting season starts in late
October and runs until the end of
December. The Pheasant are hunted
in Milo, Wheat, Corn, Alfalfa, Sudan
Grass & Safflower fields. The hunt starts
early in the morning by "pushing and
blocking" select fields. It is not
uncommon to shoot a limit of bird in a
single push. "Bird Boys" are used to
drive the birds and help hunters find
and secure downed Roosters. Included in
the price of the hunt is a "Cintillo"
(tag) to take eight cock birds.
Additional Cintillos can be purchased if
the hunter desires to shoot more than
one limit of birds. Pheasant hunting
ends just before the mid-day break.
Dove hunting starts in September and
usually ends in February. There are
three species of dove to hunt in Baja.
The Whitewing , Morning and RingNecked
(Turtle) Dove. The Dove hunting is best
in the early morning or late in the
afternoon as they fly to roost. However,
dove can and are usually taken all day
long in conjunction with Pheasant and
Quail hunting. Baja Wingshooting employs
decoys along established routes for the
ultimate in dove shooting. A Cintillo is
required for dove hunting. Morning dove
are sixty birds per Cintillo and
Whitewing are 30 birds per cintillo.
Presently, there is no limit for the
Eurasian dove and a Cintillo is not
required. Straight shooters can easily
fill a Cintillo in an afternoon.
Gamble Quail hunting season starts in
Late October and usually ends in mid
January. The quail are hunted in and
along long brush piles , draws /
drainages and on the edges of crop
fields. The quail can be hunted early in
the morning or later in the day if so
desired. The Gamble Quail love to run
but will hold well for trained bird
dogs. The limit for quail is 30 birds
per cintillo.
