Q:
What is a typical day of hunting like in
Mexicalli Valley?
A: Up early in the morning a
light breakfast at the hotel and then
Pheasant hunting until about 11. We take
a mid day break for lunch and perhaps a
mini “Siesta” then back into the area
for pass shooting / decoying dove. Or
chasing Gamble quail through the
drainages and brush piles.
Q: What are the temperatures like
during the Pheasant hunting season in
Mexicali Valley?
A: The temperatures range from
the low 40's in the mornings up to the
mid 70's & 80's in the afternoons. We
recommend that hunters have lightweight
brush pants and short sleeved shirts
during the first part of the season.
Most hunters like to wear shorts during
the dove hunting. There is very low
relative humidity in Mexicali Valley as
it was / is part of the desert.
Q: Can I bring back the birds I shoot
in Mexico to the USA?
A: Yes, as long as you have the
Mexican “Cintillo” (tag) to legally
possess them and surrender it upon
crossing into the USA.All you have to do
is fill out a form and you are ok to
import them for personal use.
Q: Can I shoot Dove and Quail during
my Pheasant hunt?
A: Yes, one of the great aspects of
hunting here is the variety and shear
number of birds. If a dove or quail
flies past and you can’t resist then
don’t.
Q: What do I need to do to bring my
hunting dog to Mexico?
A: Make sure that you have your dogs
documentation of all of his vaccinations
and it has been started on a product
like “Heart Guard” or some other type of
preventative parasite therapy. The
Mexican authorities do not care about
importing dogs. However, the U.S.
Customs may ask for proof of the animals
health. Check with your veterinarian and
U.S. Customs to be sure.
Q: Can I bring shotgun shells into
Mexico?
A: Yes, if you have a Mexican gun
permit. Then you are allowed to bring in
100 rounds per weapon. If you chose to
shoot one of our guns then the shells
will be available for purchase on
demand.
Q: Why do you put your hunters in
Hotels instead of a lodge house or
motel?
A: We have found that our clients
enjoy the luxuries offered by the local
hotels such as swimming pools, spas ,
workout facilities and internet access
to name a few. In addition, they also
enjoy the many wonderful restaurants and
watering holes that Mexicali has to
offer. Why “rough it” if you don’t have
to.
Q: Where
should I fly in to get to Mexicali?
A: San Diego California (KSAN) is
the nearest hub and from there it is
about a 2 hour drive east to Mexicali.
If you are renting a car , make sure the
rental car agency approves travel into
Mexico. Most of them do. We may also
offer a charter service in the future to
hunters who would like to be flown into
the hunting area. We have two landing
strips that are already in place to
receive the flights.
Q: How big is your hunting area?
A: Our hunting area or “UMA” is the
largest in the Valley. We have most of
the prime agricultural fields in the
Mexicali Valley under exclusive
agreement. Other “largest outfitters”
are frequently denied access to our
areas.
Q: What is a bird boy?
A: Bird Boys are locals that usually
have grown up in the area and offer
their assistance in the hunt. The higher
temps and growth in some of the fields
limit a dogs ability to find downed
birds. The birds boys are experts at
finding birds and also assisting the
hunters to maximize their odds at
getting their limits. They also clean
the equipment, guns and birds at the end
of the day. You will find them to be
eager , willing people who enjoy the
hunters and love to try out their
English skills.
Q: What hunting vehicles do you use
to transport hunters?
A: We have several new Ford 4x4
pickups and a few vans. |
